Reggie Green

Reginald(Reggie) James Green(1918-1999)

Reginald James Green (Reggie) was born on 30th September 1918 [1918Q4 West Ham Vol: 4a, Page: 597] at 57 Grove Road, Walthamstow, London, the son of Margaret Thompson-Green (1878-??) and James Frederick Green (1866-??) who was recorded on the birth certificate as a Water Board Clerk.

He was a cousin and friend of my father before WW2 and used to visit the Rigg family at my parents first house in Orpington, and I remember him giving me a 0 guage clockwork Bassett-Lowke trainset when I was quite young. Somehow after the late 1940s we lost contact with him. We believe he married and somehow this event caused the loss of family contact.

He was a godfather to my sister Alison in early 1948. The three godparents were cousin Jacqueline, Reggie Green, and Christine. A family photo taken c1949 may show Reggie and Christina.

A possible marriage has been found in the BMD index:
Reginald J Green [1955Q1 Essex S.W. Vol: 5a, Page: 492] to Christina M BAILEY
and Christina's birth index:
Christina M Bailey [1930Q4 W. Ham Vol: 4a, Page: 136]
and the birth of their son:
Neil James Green [1964Q2 Epping Vol: 5a, Page: 76] - mother's maiden name BAILEY
and a possible death index:
Christina Mary Green born 4 September 1930 died aged 53 January 1984 Tower Hamlets Vol: 14, Page: 1119

We believe he stayed in the Army after WW2 and rose to RSM. His Service Identity and records are yet to be sought. He worked as a Foreman Inspector (Water Company) in the Bishops Stortford area.

He died aged 80 on 25th January 1999 at 7 Glebe End, Elsenham, Bishops Stortford Hertfordshire. [1999 January Uttlesford Essex Register: 34, District: 4781, Entry: 60]. The informant was his son Neil James Green.

Reggie Green was my father's cousin.
