Stephanie Olga Murgatroyd-Williams was the first child to be born in Brockley in 1908Q2 [Greenwich Vol: 1d Page: 1057] after the family moved from Norwich following a fire in the house where they lived. The picture shows her as a young girl with her younger sister Pauline.
She married Denzil Henry George Williams (1908-1981) at St Catherines Church, Hatcham on 17th March 1934 [1934Q1 Deptford Vol: 1d, Page: 1168] - see picture below. Her niece Jacqueline was a bridesmaid. His father George Edward Williams is recorded as an Electrician. Her father Arthur Haley Murgatroyd is recorded as an Advertising Agent.
Denzil was always known to me as uncle Billy. He was a van driver for a haulage firm when he married, and an engine fitter during the war. He left home for another woman at the end of WW2 and in later years ran a Sub Post Office.
They had one son Colin Williams (1936-1996) who died aged 59.
She died aged 77 at Alcester Hospital in 1985 and was buried in Great Alne, Warwickshire.
Her parents were Alice Emma Dewhirst-Murgatroyd and
Arthur Haley Murgatroyd
His parents were George Edward Williams (1881-1949) and Emma Annie Mary Cramp-Williams (1881-1976).
Stephanie Murgatroyd-Williams was my maternal aunt.
